Church????

Millions of people all over the world meet every Sunday to congregate and worship the Lord at Church. Let's look at where the word Church originates.

The word Church in Greek is Circe. Circe is a Greek goddess that had the ability to put men in trances and would lead them to her home. She took their minds away and turned them into animals so they would support and feed her. She became known as "Mother Circe". She then went on and took her worship to Scotland, when she arrived her name Circe became "Kirk" in the Scottish language. Kirk is the informal name for Church of Scotland. Kirk in English translates to Church.

Another place that you might find the name Kirk is found in the famous T.V. series Star Trek starring Captain Kirk who piloted the U.S.S. Enterprise. Even more interesting, look up the word enterprise, you might be surprised what you find. Enterprise - an undertaking, a business organization devoted only towards profit. I believe that Churches are nothing more than enterprises of money. Perhaps this could be the reason both money and Church are in denominations.

"Through want of enterprise and faith men are where they are, buying, selling and spending their lives like serfs" - Henry David Thoreau.
